TABANAN, Balitopnews.com — In order to commemorate World Ocean Day, the Ambassador of Source-Based Waste Management (PSBS) Pelemahan Kedas (PADAS), Mrs. Putri Koster, together with the Sungai Watch Foundation went directly to clean up plastic waste and other inorganic waste along the river on the border of Dauh Peken and Delod Peken Villages, Tabanan, Sunday (June 8, 2025).
The heavy rain and slippery roads did not dampen the enthusiasm of Mrs. Putri Koster and the team from the Sungai Watch Foundation, members of the TP PKK Tabanan and Bali Province , and the Provincial Posyandu Team to go directly to the river and collect plastic waste and other inorganic waste, both those caught in bamboo trees and along the river.
On the sidelines of the cleaning activities, the PADAS PSBS Ambassador told the Head of Dauh Peken Village, I Komang Sanayasa, to continue to remind his residents to no longer throw garbage into the house slopes or into the river. According to her, this habit has a bad impact on the environment. In addition to reducing soil fertility, piles of garbage can cause flooding and landslides, and pollute the sea because it is carried by the river flow that flows into the sea. "Remind and invite the community to change their habits. Don't throw garbage into the river. Don't let our houses be clean, but our rivers are polluted, our environment is dirty," she added.
Mrs. Putri Koster also requested that village officials build a waste management system that is adjusted to the conditions of each village. Waste, especially household organic waste, can be managed and resolved directly at the household level using the Teba Modern and Compost Bin concepts. "We must start changing our behavior, from throwing away waste to managing waste. Waste is resolved at the source, no more waste is dumped in other villages or into rivers," she said.
Meanwhile, Sungai Watch Field Manager, I Made Dwi Bagiasa, expressed his appreciation for Mrs. Putri Koster's participation and concern for the waste problem in Bali, especially waste in rivers.
According to him, the Sungai Watch Foundation routinely holds Weekly Clean Up activities every Friday to clean the river from garbage while sorting it on site. His party welcomes the support from the government to work together to form patterns and systems for handling garbage so as to raise public awareness to help protect the environment, one of which is by not throwing garbage into the river or the surrounding environment. "This is the first time someone has accompanied us in cleaning the river. We are very happy. Our environment is currently not in good shape. Let's work together, starting today we will create a clean and garbage-free environment together," he added.
This activity was also attended by the Founder of Sungai Watch, Kelly Bencheghib, Head of the Bali Province PMD Dukcapil Service, and the Head of the Bali Province P3A Social Service. On that occasion, the companion of the number one person in Bali also invited related parties such as the River Region Office to be involved and actively participate in maintaining the cleanliness of the river and realizing a river that is free from waste, especially inorganic waste that can damage the ecosystem.
After carrying out the plastic waste clean-up action along the Dauh Peken and Delod Peken Rivers, Mrs. Putri Koster had the opportunity to visit the TPS3R Sadu Kencana, Dauh Peken Village, Tabanan. (Rls/Btnc)
