Governor Bali Invites RRI to Fight Hoax

The hoax is being spread massively in mass media and social media lately, has become a very serious problem. As a result of the spread of the news, it has succeeded in undermining mutual trust, triggering sentiment and mutual suspicion, as well as increasing hatred and even spreading worrying conflicts.
For this reason, RRI's role as a public broadcasting institution is needed to ward off the hoax news, said Bali Governor Wayan Koster in a speech read by the Head of the Bali Provincial Public Relations and Protocol Bureau AA Ngurah Oka Sutha Diana in the handover ceremony of the Head of LPP RRI Denpasar from Dra Sophia Endang Widowati to Nawir Nwihu SSos, on the open stage Parahita RRI Denpasar, Wednesday (October 9, 2019).
Also present at the event, the Chairperson of the TP PKK Bali Propince Putri Suastini Koster, RRI Finance Director Hari Sudryanto, FKUB (religious harmony forum) General Chairperson as well as the Great Bendesa of the Bali Province Indigenous Village Assembly Ida Panglingsir Agung Putra Sukahet, Forkompinda members throughout Indonesia and other invitations .
Governor Koster said, in spreading information services to the public, RRI Denpasar was expected to be able to provide education and social glue for the community through its broadcasts. "As an independent, neutral and non-commercial public broadcasting institution, RRI has a role in preventing and minimizing the spread of hoax news in the community. And this is very expected of us," Governor Koster said.
The Governor Koster said, RRI with its resources could increase media literacy for the community, so that all groups could receive, filter and manage information in a more controlled and filtered manner.
In addition to RRI's readiness in working with the government to overcome hoaks, the Bali Provincial Government also invites this public broadcasting institution to strengthen the role of social control, namely providing space or time to build public awareness in participating in overseeing regional development.
"I also hope that RRI is able to contribute to the acceleration of development in the Province of Bali, because RRI is not only for entertaining, but also for delivering accurate and actual information about the course of development in the Province of Bali in accordance with the vision of Nangun Sat Kerthi Loka Bali," he stressed.
On that occasion, Governor Koster also expressed his deep appreciation for the devotion of Mrs. Sophia Endang Widowati during her duties in Denpasar. "I thank you for your dedication and ability to work together with the Provincial Government of Bali in providing development information. To Mr. Nawir Nawihu, I wish you a safe duty, hopefully this cooperation can continue to be maintained even further in the future," he said.
The same thing was also conveyed by Director of Finance of LPP RRI, Hari Sudaryanto. He expressed his appreciation for Mrs. Endang Widowati's dedication and hard work during her tenure as Head of the RRI Station in Denpasar for the past three years. He hoped that through the leadership of the new station head, RRI's performance could be improved and brought positive changes for the benefit of the institution.
Moreover, according to him, currently RRI listeners are still dominated by the age of 40 years and over. "These are things we must pay attention to together, what are the next steps we must take to attract young people," he said, reminding.
Overall, RRI next year has designed a Strategic Plan, one of which contains radio research. "What is the response of listeners so far about RRI, as well as community satisfaction, so that we can arrange the next steps and programs," he said. He even added that he had coordinated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to be able to broadcast abroad. "Our aim is to introduce Indonesian culture to listeners abroad," he explained.
The handover of the position was in accordance with the Decree of the President Director of the Public Broadcasting Agency No: 1733 in 2019 concerning Appointment of Structural Civil Servants. The handover of this position was carried out because the replaced Head of the RRI Station in Denpasar had retired.
