Bali Best Sommelier Competition 2021 Indonesia Sommelier Association (ISA) Bali Chapter

BADUNG, - ISA Bali Chapter today, 15th October 2021 is proud to share the annual Bali Best Sommelier 2021 for the ninth-times, taking place at the same venue as previous event, hotel Wyndham Garden Kuta Beach Bali. 


This year competition followed by 8 Sommeliers from hotel and respected restaurant in Bali. Due to the restriction of Covid-19 protocol, the competition is 

closed for public and only attended by member of the association, committee, selected judges and sponsors.


The format of the competition includes written test, menu pairing, blind tasting, and few 

others practical challenges designed by David Hsiao, the head judge for this year competition. 

David is the Vice President of Taiwan Sommelier Association with many of international recognition on his expertise in Wine and Sommelier. Adapting the new normal, David lead the 

judging virtually from Taiwan, involving 6 professional judges as an observer and taking the scoring tasks. 


Those judges are Kertawidyawati head of Hatten Educational Center, Jeremy 

Pramana the Hatten Winemaker, Sophia Burger from Potato Head Bali, Hubert Phoa the Asst. Food and Beverage Manager of Amankila Resort, Made Sumariana Area GM of Astadala 

Hospitality and Adam the President of Indonesia Sommelier Association. 

After passing written test followed by 6 challenging workshops from early morning up to sunset time, Bali Best Sommelier Competition 2021 announced the result as follows:

The Best Bali Sommelier 2021 is Teguh Alexander Putra Darmawan

The Runner up Best Bali Sommelier 2021 is Happy Agam

The Second Runner up Best Bali Sommelier 2021is I Ketut Anom Restu Raharja


“Despite challenging situation of Covid-19 Pandemic that restricting our social activities, 

we have successfully managed the competition with proper health protocols, and I believe we 

should proud of all ISA Bali Chapter committee and congratulated all of the champions for their 

achievement today. This is not their final journey, the preparation to the next level need to be 

done as the National Competition is calling very soon”, said Bagus Ngurah the President of ISA 

Bali Chapter.

ISA Bali Chapter is an association branch of The Indonesia Sommelier Association, a non-profit 

organization established in 2009 in Jakarta which is affiliated to The Association de la 

Sommellerie Internationale (ASI), founded in Reims (France) in June 1969. ISA Bali Chapter 

commitment is to focusing all association activities to build young generation of Sommelier in 

Bali, taking the next level of food and beverage services in the island. ISA Bali chapter since 

inaugurated in 2012 has develop 9 Champions and most of them have been successfully winning 

the national competition and furthermore, joining some international competition represent 

Indonesia Sommelier. Our champions have contributed their knowledge and experiences in 

Sommelier and Wine training development, not only for our member but also to some educational school and university in Bali.
