Balitopnews.com, BADUNG - Bali Governor Wayan Koster stressed that the Provincial Government of Bali and its stakeholders have been fully committed to carrying out the elections well, democratically with high levels of community participation.

This was revealed by Koster in his remarks at the Coordination Meeting on Politics and General Government and Early Detection Supporting the Success of the Concurrent Election of 2020, at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center (BNDCC), Badung, Thursday ( February 27,  2020).

In his welcome speech, Koster expressed his appreciation for the holding of the coordination meeting in Bali, amid the decline of Bali tourism as a result of the Corona virus. With the Corona case, Bali has the potential to lose tourist visits, especially China. With the decrease in the number of visits, the regions that felt the most impact were Badung, Denpasar, Gianyar and Klungkung and had an effect on PHR (hotel restaurant tax) revenue which affected PAD

(locally-generated revenue). For this reason, the Governor hopes that in the future more and more MICE activities from ministries and other institutions will be held in Bali that will have a positive impact on tourism and the economic movement of the Balinese people.

Regarding the simultaneous local elections which will be held in September in a number of regencies / cities in Bali, Governor Koster said that the Bali Provincial Government and related stakeholders have been fully committed to implementing elections well, democratically with high levels of community participation.

With the holding of the coordination meeting which was attended by more than 2000 participants from all over Indonesia, Governor Koster hoped that the implementation of the elections would go well and democracy in Indonesia would grow more mature and produce regional leaders who could bring change, progress and in line with community expectations.

Meanwhile Minister of the Interior Tito Karnavian in his remarks conveyed according to the directives of the President of the Republic of Indonesia related to a joint strategy in responding to the Corona virus which has the effect of slowing economic growth, especially for tourism areas. For this reason, the government has taken a number of steps including encouraging the implementation of MICE in affected tourism areas, especially Bali. In addition, Minister Tito stressed that the potential of local tourists is quite promising and has a strong purchasing power. For this reason, the domestic market is expected to cover the weakening Chinese market due to Corona.

Regarding the implementation of the 2020 Simultaneous Local Election, Minister Tito stressed that the 2020 regional elections must run smoothly in all regions, both security and neutrality of the ASNs. All levels of staff involved, including media crews, were asked to equalize perceptions related to the implementation of the elections and to help maintain the simultaneous local election implementation.

"The success of the election is not only seen from the increasing participation of the people in exercising their voting rights, but also how the community becomes an intelligent voter who can choose leaders who bring change to the nation," he said
