GPDRR 2022 is Expected To Be An Event to Promote Bali as Disaster Safe Tourism

DENPASAR, Balitopnews. com - Bali was chosen as the venue for the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GPDRR) which will be held in 2022. This international standard event is expected to be a promotional moment for Bali as disaster-safe tourism in the eyes of the world.

 

This was revealed when Deputy for Strategic Planning of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Wisnu Widjaja met Governor of Bali Wayan Koster who came specifically to discuss the event, Thursday (October 1, 2020) in Jayasabha, Denpasar.

 

Starting the meeting, Governor Koster explained that Bali continues to implement what has been recommended by the central government regarding disaster-safe tourism, including in dealing with the latest conditions regarding the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

"Currently Bali is still in the red zone area. However, we continue to tighten the regulations for implementing health protocols for the public, ”Governor Koster explained, who previously served as a member of the Indonesian Parliament for three terms.



 

Governor Koster also hopes that with the form of synergy from the local government and community discipline, Bali Province can continue to suppress the potential for COVID-19 transmission. So that Bali can be ready and safe in holding the GPDRR activities in 2022.

 

Previously, BNPB Deputy for Social Security Strategy Wisnu Widjaja said that the election of Indonesia, especially Bali as the host for the GPDRR 2022 could be a space for the Indonesian government and Bali Province to further promote disaster risk reduction-based tourism on the international stage.

 

"It is an honor for Indonesia, especially Bali, to host the GPDRR activities in 2022. This activity can be an event to promote Bali tourism in the international arena, " Wisnu Widjaja said. 

 

The GPDRR is a biennial multi-stakeholder forum established by the United Nations (UN) to review progress, share knowledge and discuss the latest developments and trends in disaster risk reduction.

The event, which will be held in 2022, is expected to be attended by 182 countries consisting of high-ranking government officials, non-governmental organizations, academics, the tourism sector and the media.


 

On the other hand, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia is waiting for a decision and agreement from the results of a comprehensive study. Because there are many aspects that must be reviewed regarding the feasibility of holding this big event. (Gix)
