President of the Republic of Indonesia, Ir. Joko Widodo and The Governor of Bali Wayan Koster

JAKARTA, Balitopnews.com - The Governor of Bali, Wayan Koster was invited to attend a limited meeting by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Ir. Joko Widodo, at the Merdeka Palace Monday ( June 7, 2021) in order to discuss the restoration of Bali tourism.

The President is accompanied by the Minister of State Secretary, Cabinet Secretary, Minister of Tourism, Minister of Finance, Governor of Bank Indonesia, and Chairman of the Financial Services Authority.

The meeting chaired by the President of the Republic of Indonesia discussed 5 topics, namely the achievement of vaccination in Bali, tightening the Covid-19 health protocol, encouraging domestic tourist visits to Bali, preparing for the opening of a corridor for foreign tourists with strict health protocols, and balancing the Balinese economy with the creative economy, digital economy and improvement exports so that they are not too dependent on tourism.

The Governor of Bali reports on the achievements of the vaccination program. Bali has received about 3 million doses of vaccine (50%) of the total vaccine needs through the Minister of Health. The mass vaccination program is implemented in synergy with the Regents/Mayors throughout Bali and is supported by the Bali Police, Kodam IX/Udayana, universities, government and private health facilities, hotels, and other public facilities.

As of June 6, 2021, the first stage of vaccination has reached more than 1.4 million people (47%) and the second stage of vaccination has reached more than 659 thousand people (22%). Bali requires 6 million doses of vaccine to vaccinate 3 million people (70%) of the total population of Bali to achieve community immunity (herd immunity).

The impact of vaccination has begun to be seen from the decline in new cases of Covid-19, an average of less than 50 new cases per day which is decreasing, the cure rate is increasing to more than 95% (above the national average, 91%), the death rate reaching 3.71% tends to decrease (but still above the national average of 2.78%), which is less than 5 people per day, and the number of active cases reaches less than 1% which continues to decline (below the national average of 5, 24%), namely 473 people (227 people being hospitalized and 246 people in isolation/quarantine).

Bali still needs an additional 3 million doses of vaccine (a total need of 6 million doses of vaccine) to complete the vaccination target for 3 million people. Fourth, the impact of Covid-19 has had a very serious impact on tourism and the Bali economy, Bali's economic growth experienced a very deep contraction, namely in 2020 it contracted 9.3% (negative), and in the first quarter of 2021 it contracted 9.8% ( negative).

This condition must be quickly addressed with special policies that are spatial in nature for Bali, so that tourism and Bali's economy do not get worse.

In the limited meeting, the Governor of Bali conveyed the requests and aspirations of the parties including Bali tourism actors. First, requesting an additional 3 million doses of vaccine so that vaccinations in Bali can be completed in July 2021. Second, encourage domestic tourist visits to Bali by providing special incentives. Third, increasing the Work From Bali (WFB) program to reach all Ministries/Institutions.

Fourth, increasing national and world meetings in Bali. Fifth, propose that foreign tourists can be opened on a limited basis by the end of July 2021. Sixth, continue the tourism grant program for tourism business actors and tourism supporters as well as to help district/city government revenues, due to the drastic decrease in Regional Original Income (PAD).

Seventh, the extension of the period for paying loan installments for tourism business actors through changes to the Financial Services Authority Regulation, adjusting to the recovery of tourism/the Bali economy. Eighth, propose a labor-intensive National Economic Recovery (PEN) program. Ninth, propose soft loans for business actors and supporters of Bali tourism businesses. And finally, Tenth, requesting the President of the Republic of Indonesia to officially open the 43rd Bali Arts Festival, on June 12, 2021, online (Virtually).

In discussing the topics, after discussing with full support, opinions, and input from the Minister of Tourism, Minister of Finance, Governor of Bank Indonesia and Chairman of OJK, the President in principle approved the request and proposal of the Governor of Bali. The President assigns the Ministers and related officials to follow up so that the decisions of the limited meeting can be implemented effectively.(gix)
