The Governor of Bali Wayan Koster Launches Balinese Script Keyboard

DENPASAR, Balitopnews.com - For the first time in Indonesia, the Balinese script as one of the original scripts of the archipelago was transformed into digital form using media in the form of a Balinese script keyboard, which was launched by the Governor of Bali, Wayan Koster, Saturday (September 11, 2021) in Jaya Sabha, Denpasar .

 

This Balinese script keyboard is a creative and original idea from the Governor of Bali, Wayan Koster, who commissioned it to be developed by the Research Team from the Informatics Study Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Udayana University (Cokorda Rai Adi Pramartha, Ph.D, IB Ary Indra Iswara, M.Kom, I Putu Gede Hendra Suputra, M. Kom, and IB Gede Dwidasmara, M.Cs.).


 

The launch event for the Balinese Script Keyboard was carried out in a hybrid manner (offline and online) attended by 45 elementary, junior high, high school/vocational high school students, SLB Regency/City throughout Bali, and 4 student representatives from Udayana University, Indonesian Art Institute Denpasar, State Hindu University I Gusti Bagus Sugriwa Denpasar, and the Indonesian Hindu University Denpasar. This event was attended by the Regent/Mayor, the Chancellor of Higher Education and was attended virtually by the Education Units of SMA, Vocational High Schools, State and Private SLBs throughout Bali.

Furthermore, the Governor of Bali emphasized that the Balinese Script Keyboard is a combination of Balinese local wisdom and the development of science and technology, especially digital technology in the current era of world globalization. The development of globalized digital technology must not turn off / drown the rich and unique Balinese culture and local wisdom such as the Balinese script, but instead can be used as a means to preserve the Balinese script through digital technology favored by the millennial young generation in order to advance local culture and wisdom. On that occasion the Governor of Bali took the time to interact directly with students and students, giving questions to be typed in Balinese script, as many as 7 questions, namely: 1) Bali Dwipa Jaya; 2) The name of the Governor of Bali, Wayan Koster; 3) The name of the Deputy Governor of Bali, Tjok Oka Sukawati; 4) Mount Agung; 5) Besakih Temple; 6) Tumpek Landep; and 7) Nangun Sat Kerthi Loka Bali. Unexpectedly, it turned out that the students were swiftly able to write down the questions correctly and quickly from their respective laptops which were displayed live on a virtual screen. The correctness of the writing of the Balinese script was assessed by the Team, consisting of; Ketut Sumarta (Bali Provincial Development Expert Group), Bali Provincial Culture Office Head, and Bali Province Bali Language Extension Coordinator.

 

The Governor of Bali really admires the ability of the students and students who are still very fluent and care about the Balinese script. As a form of appreciation, the Governor of Bali spontaneously gave awards in the form of cash amounting to Rp. 1,000,000 each to 49 student representatives and students who would be sent through their respective accounts at the Bali Regional Development Bank.

namely: 1) using a WiFi connection (USB dongle) or Bluetooth; 2) can be used to write Balinese script naturally (without auto-correction, red);  

3) can be used to write Balinese script on different operating systems such as Apple MacOS and Microsoft Windows; 4) can be used to create and save digital documents in various applications such as Microsoft Office, Google Office (Docs, Spreadsheets, Presentations), Notes, iWork and others using Balinese script; 5) can be used to write documents on the website/Internet with Balinese script; 6) can be used to write messages on social media such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram with Balinese script; and 7) the result of making the document or the resulting message can be shared with others without changing the appearance of the previously created Balinese script.

 

The Governor of Bali assured Krama Bali, especially the young millennial generation, that the Balinese script could be in line with the scripts of other countries that have been worldwide, such as; China, Japan, Korea, Thailand and India. These countries, which have their own script indicating the level of civilization in the past, are able to survive until now, and will be able to compete in the face of global dynamics, marked by progress in various fields of people's lives. Therefore, the Governor of Bali, Wayan Koster invites the millennial young generation, We must be grateful to be given a cultural heritage in the form of Balinese script by a very great Balinese Ancestor. At the launch of the Balinese Script Keyboard, the Chairman of the Indonesian Domain and Internet Management (PANDI), Prof. Yudho Giri Sucahyo, P.hd expressed his appreciation and pride in Governor Wayan Koster's commitment and achievement in preserving local script. According to him, this is a big step towards the progress of digitizing the Balinese script as well as an effort to preserve the nation's cultural values, especially Balinese culture. This is in accordance with the work program that is being campaigned by PANDI, namely the Indonesian Knitting Program Through the Digitalization of Archipelago Scripts (MIMDAN),

 

where the Central Government, Local Government to UNESCO fully support the program. Currently PANDI is trying to promote the archipelago script to the international realm, so it is hoped that the digitization process of the archipelago script can be easier.
