Chairman of the Family Welfare Empowerment (PKK) Bali Province Mrs Putri Koster wants the fragrance of flowers and various local typical flora of Bali to be able to go global. For this reason, She reminded that the flower arrangers were not always oriented to foreign products.

"On the contrary, we must fly what we have to the international world, with a record that we must remain grounded in local wisdom," She said in remarks at the Floral Arrangement Demo and Workshop at Plaza Renon, Sunday (September 1, 2019).

Mrs. Putri Koster added, Bali has various types of flowers that are not less beautiful than flowers from foreign countries. "Do not import everything. We must raise the prestige of local flowers," She said.

She wanted, in the future Bali to have an art of arranging flowers like Japan, known as Ikebana. "We make a name for the art of arranging Balinese flowers," She added.

On that occasion, She praised the expertise of Didon Kajeng, a Balinese Floral Designer who produced extraordinary works by utilizing local flower types.

She hoped that the workshop participants could emulate the enthusiasm and creativity shown by Didon. "Didon is an extraordinary figure. He is multi-talented. I used to know him as a theater monologue and a very reliable poet," She said.

According to her a Didon acts as a lighter and trigger. "We don't have to imitate, but create new works and develop creativity," She advised.

Meanwhile, Didon Kajeng expressed his gratitude for the appreciation given by Mrs Putri  Koster.

He said, it is not easy to arouse confidence when he can no longer see. But he still got up and tried until gradually his confidence recovered. Within limitations, it actually creates works that invite admiration.

According to Didon, the most memorable experience when he was  asked to decorate a hotel when US 43rd president George W. Bush visited Bali in 2006. At that time, he presented Indonesian natural decorations using local fruits and flowers from various regions in Indonesia, one of which was Bali.

One characteristic of the flower arrangements that attract Didon's work is the use of local leaves typical of Balinese flora, one of which is coconut leaves. "If the flowers are beautiful, there are so many foreign countries. As for the leaves, we excel. So I use many leaves," he added.

With a touch of creativity, leaves combined with local flowers such as shining, sunny, sun, thousand flowers, Japanese and other flowers are transformed into beautiful and charming flower arrangements. One of the characteristics of Didon flower arrangements is the use of coconut leaves that are formed in such a way.

The workshop theme is  'east meet west' or the meeting east and west. "This theme has meaning, we take advantage of local flora such as  coconut leaves and various flowers, but the resulting series of international tastes," he said.

With this step, Didon is sure that the typical flora of Bali will be able to compete in the international arena.

On that occasion, Mrs. Princess Koster also showed her skill in arranging flowers into a beautiful bouquet. (Balitopnews.com / Amo Bali)
