DENPASAR, Balitopnews.com - Chairperson of the TP PKK Bali Province Putri Koster has up to now promoted the discourse of gender equality for women. As in the webinar organized by the Indonesian Midwives Association (IBI), Bali Province, Putri Koster emphasized the importance of women's roles in the line of life so that women's roles and functions must always be considered.

"Give space wherever it is, both in households, workplaces and communities for women to show their existence, so that the ideals of gender equality can be realized," She said.

This was conveyed when he gave a speech at the Webinar event organized by IBI Bali Province with the theme "Interpreting Mother's Day in Preventing Violence and P2GP Practices" from the residence of the Governor of Bali, Jayasabha, Saturday, December 26, 2020. She stated that the role of women had always been side by side with men's roles and complemented each other.

"This can be seen in household life, society and especially in Bali in cultural and religious life," She said.

Putri Koster added, such as the presence of this webinar, which aims to appreciate women, especially mothers, is very useful. Moreover, the webinar this time has a very important theme, namely about the practice of 'Cutting and Injuring the Female Genitalia' (P2GP). "Frankly, as the head of the PKK TP, I just heard about this practice, and after I learned that this is very dangerous for women's health, so it needs to be prevented," She added.

In addition, this practice is also incompatible with the efforts of all parties to protect women's rights. For that, she invited the webinar participants to really listen to the speakers' explanations.

"I remind you to listen carefully to this webinar and then play an active role in socializing the dangers of female circumcision to the public," she said, adding that socialization could be done through social media or in their respective environments.

She assessed that protection of rights and efforts for gender equality can not only be carried out by certain groups, but requires an active role from all parties so that the aspirations for the welfare of women can be realized.

Meanwhile, Luh Putu Sukarini, head of the Regional Board of the Indonesian Midwives Association of Bali Province, said that this webinar was a series of celebrating Mother's Day which fell on December 22. In addition, this webinar is also a dedication of midwives throughout Bali to mothers and women for their dedication so far.

Regarding P2GP, Luh Putu Sukarini does not deny that this practice is still rife because it involves customary obligations in certain areas. He said that if this practice does not provide any benefit to women, even medically it can endanger women's reproductive health.

So that through this webinar, he hopes that the public will be more open minded so that there is no need to carry out such practices, even if necessary, eliminate those practices that are detrimental to women's rights.

This webinar presents speakers from the health and protection of women and children, such as from the Bali Provincial Health Office, Social Service, Women's Empowerment and Child Protection, religious leaders to doctors. (Gix)
