Governor of Bali Wayan Koster - Chistian Dior Signs Cooperation Promotion of Indonesian Traditional Cultural Expressions for Balinese Endek Weaving

DENPASAR, Balitopnews.com - The Governor of Bali, Wayan Koster and Christian Dior Couture, SA officially signed a collaboration to promote Indonesian Traditional Cultural Expressions for Balinese Endek Weaving virtually from Gedung Gajah, Jayasabha, Denpasar and Paris, France right on the Holy Day of Tilem Kaulu , Thursday, Wraspati Pon Landep (February 11, 2021) at 21.30 WITA or 2.30 pm Paris time.

 

The signing of this collaboration was successfully carried out, after the Bali Provincial Government through the Governor of Bali, Wayan Koster together with the Chairperson of the Bali Provincial Dekranasda, Mrs . Putri Koster continues to fight for the use of Balinese Endek Woven Fabrics produced by original weavers from the Island of the Gods to the Indonesian Ministry of Home Affairs, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Indonesian Ministry of Trade so that companies established under French law, Christian Dior Couture, SA can take advantage of Endek Bali woven fabrics as a collection of spring and summer clothing in 2021.


 

In this collaboration, it was stated that the purpose of this Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was as a basis for the parties to work together in promoting traditional Indonesian cultural expressions, especially Tenun Endek Bali on the basis of mutual respect and mutual benefit. Governor Koster and Christian Dior also agreed that within the scope of this cooperation to promote Indonesian traditional cultural expressions, particularly the use of Balinese Endek Weaving in Dior products. Agree to cooperate in the field of Empowerment of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Bali which produces Endek Weaving, in the field of joint projects to support the actualization of the use of Balinese Endek Weaving in Dior products, and in other fields of mutual interest according to the competence of each party mutually agreed upon.

The parties are also required to respect intellectual property rights in the implementation of cooperative activities based on this MOU  and comply with the laws and regulations in force in their respective countries. Furthermore, Governor Koster and Christian Dior agreed to recognize the value of Traditional Knowledge and Traditional Cultural Expressions (PT and EBT), and recognize the rights of PT and EBT holders to effectively protect PT and EBT from misuse and diversion.


 

Then, the Regional Government of Bali Province as the manager of Endek Bali Weaving stated its approval for the use of the Endek Bali Tenun motif on Dior products. So as an expression of recognition of the value and recognition of the rights of the owner of Tenun Endek Bali, Christian Dior agrees to provide empowerment to selected micro, small and medium enterprises in Bali that produce Tenun Endek, and include a recognition label on every Dior product that uses Tenun Endek Bali. . In closing, this MSP must remain in effect for a period of three years and can be extended by mutual agreement of the parties in writing through official channels.

After signing the agreement consisting of 11 Articles with Senior Vice President General Counsel Christian Dior, Marie Champey, the Governor of Bali from Sembiran Village, Buleleng, in his speech expressed his appreciation and pride for the choice of one of Bali's cultural heritage by a world-class fashion house from France. This is a historic collaboration in preserving Bali's ancestral cultural heritage and also as a form of our partisanship with small and medium industries, especially the Balinese Endek Cloth weavers during the Covid-19 pandemic, " Koster said before the Director General of National Export Development, Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Kasan, Representative of the Indonesian Ministry of Home Affairs, Arif Hidayat, and the Director General of America and Europe, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, I Gede Ngurah Swajaya, Indonesian Ambassador to France, Arrmanatha Christiawan NASIR, and in front of the Chairman of the Bali Provincial Dekranasda, Mrs Putri Koster.



 

So that the Governor of Bali who also serves as the Chair of the PDI Perjuangan DPD in the Province of Bali continues to work in a patterned, comprehensive, planned, directed and integrated manner in protecting the cultural heritage of Balinese ancestors while at the same time giving sides to small and medium industries by certifying Endek Woven Fabrics. Bali as a Communal Intellectual Property for Traditional Cultural Expressions with Inventory Number EBT.12.2020.0000085 by the Directorate General of Intellectual Property, Ministry of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia, on December 22, 2020. Then issued Circular Number 04 of 2021 concerning the Use of Bali Endek Woven Fabric / Traditional Balinese Woven Fabrics, so that Vertical Agency Leaders, Higher Education Leaders, Regents / Mayors, Regional Apparatus Leaders, Heads of BUMN and BUMD, Heads of Private Companies, and Heads of Organizations / Community Organizations throughout Bali respect and appreciate Balinese Endek Woven Fabrics / Woven Fabrics Traditional Bali as a creative cultural heritage of the Balinese people.
