PT Pelindo III completed the new design of the Denpasar Benoa Port as a follow-up to the letter of Governor Bali  Wayan Koster after the collapse of part of the mangrove forest in the process of expanding the port.

In the new design, more than half of the reclaimed land will be turned into the city's lungs, while the rest will be used for fishing facilities and energy supply. This new design also gives space for the implementation of customary village activities and economic equality opportunities outside the port area or inclusive economy.

This was revealed in press conference Governor Bali  Wayan Koster together with Maritime Infrastructure Ministry Deputy Coordinator Ridwan Djamaluddin and Pelindo III Managing Director Doso Agung at the Jaya Sabha Building, Denpasar,  Saturday (2 November 2019).

"From a series of meetings several times, today the meeting is final, showing the design of Dumping I and Dumping II utilization as well as the former Akame area that has been designed to be a more environmentally friendly utilization," Wayan Koster said.

He added, the Dumping I area which reached 25 hectares, 13 hectares (51%) of which was used for urban forests and 12 hectares (49%) for fishing facilities such as 'cold storage' that could meet the needs of cruise ships and export demand.

While the Dumping II area of 45 hectares, 23 hectares (51%) is used for urban forests and the remaining 22 hectares (49%) for liquid bulk facilities, namely fuel, gas and aviation terminal. According to the Governor, a fuel terminal needs to be built so that Indonesia can refuel cruise ships that have been carried out in Singapore.

"Then the gas terminal has to do with Bali's clean energy. All use renewable energy, so there will be a gas terminal to supply PLN, "Governor Koster said.

Likewise, the Avtur terminal, he continued, is needed to meet the needs of Ngurah Rai Airport, where the existing terminal is too close to the airport, so it needs to be shifted for safety.

The new Benoa Port design also eliminates all tourism accommodation in the region. In addition to canceling the tourism accommodation development plan according to the Governor's request, also a number of facilities such as restaurants, water sports and helipad which are now in operation, will be terminated from the end of 2020. The former land will be turned back into urban forest.

"We build a community outside. Initially everything will be built inside, now it will be pulled out, "Maritime Infrastructure Ministry Deputy Coordinator Ridwan Djamaluddin said.

According to Ridwan, the big goal of developing Benoa Port was to develop Indonesia through Bali. With the anchoring of a large cruise ship in the Port of Benoa, it will also have a large economic impact on Bali.

"With a target of 10 new Bali, the original Bali is actually moving faster than the others. Hopefully the Balinese welcome it well, "Ridwan added.

President Director of Pelindo III Doso Agung said, there were many cruise ships that expressed interest in anchoring at the Port of Benoa. Finally, a ship with a capacity of 2,000 people has been docked in Bali. With the expansion of the pier later, Benoa Harbor can be berthed by cruise ships with a capacity of 4,000 people.

"Later, a travel route will be made, so that they can enjoy the nature of Bali and buy folk handicrafts on the Island of the Gods," Bali Governor Wayan Koster said. (Balitopnews.com/MD/Hms)
