DENPASAR, Balitopnews.com – The Acting Governor of Bali, S.M. Mahendra Jaya, believes that the problem of poverty in Bali can be solved through education. He conveyed this to the United States Ambassador to Indonesia, Kamala Shirin Lakhdhir, at the Office of the Governor of Bali, Jaya Sabha, Denpasar, Wednesday (16 October 2024) afternoon. "We believe that only through education can poverty be resolved," Mahendra Jaya said.
Previously, the US Ambassador to Indonesia, Kamala Shirin, explained that on October 17 2024, the Education USA-Indonesian Fair 2024 would be held, which would bring together Indonesian and American students to exchange knowledge and experiences and share tips on studying abroad. .
"I know you are interested, because I know you really care about education," said Kamala to the bureaucrat from Temesi Village, Gianyar,. Mahendra Jaya hopes that the United States Government can help Bali in the field of education through a scholarship program for native Balinese sons and daughters. He said that Balinese human resources are superior, diligent, creative and have high levels of innovation. However, many do not have the opportunity to obtain a better education, one of the causes is poverty. He explained that the Bali Provincial Government had built Bali Mandara High School/Vocational School as a special school for underprivileged students. This boarding school brings together poor students from all districts/cities in Bali to study there, and their education costs are borne by the Regional Government. “However, their achievements are extraordinary, many have received scholarships abroad. "We hope His Majesty can visit there," explained Mahendra Jaya. Apart from education issues, Kamala Shirin also highlighted tourism and environmental issues in Bali. He was very impressed with Balinese culture. When asking Americans who live and set up businesses in Bali, many of them decided to live in Bali because they were amazed by the culture. He hopes that the Balinese people, especially the younger generation, can continue to preserve their culture.
The US Ambassador to Indonesia also highlighted Bali's dependence on the tourism sector. He observed that when there are certain issues, such as terrorism, the Covid-19 pandemic, and other issues, this really affects Bali's economy. Regarding this matter, Mahendra Jaya said that the Bali Provincial Government had learned a lot from the Covid-19 pandemic.
Currently, the Bali Provincial Government is trying to diversify the economy by not only relying on the tourism sector, but also developing the agricultural sector, creative industry and MSMEs, including encouraging Bali to become a Digital Hub for existing young talents. (Rls/Btnc)
