This was conveyed by the Regional Secretary of Bali Province, Dewa Made Indra, when attending the Regional Coordination Meeting for the Study of Downstream Strategic Investment in the Plantation, Maritime, Fisheries and Forestry Sectors for Fiscal Year 2024 at the Kuta Beach Heritage Hotel, Badung on Thursday (July 4, 2024) morning. 

 

"The strategic downstream sector for us in Bali is the marine and fisheries sector. For the marine and fisheries sector, the strategic commodity in Bali is shrimp. There are quite a lot of shrimp ponds in Bali. Then tuna fish. Skipjack and tuna have been exported and consumed "Apart from that, seaweed and salt also have potential in Bali," he said.

 

This large potential is mostly exported in whole, frozen and fresh form, while in processed form there is still relatively little. Apart from the large exports in the form of whole fish, the upstream supply chain is not yet running well, so that many fishermen's catches cannot reach the processing industry. with good quality. Regional Secretary Dewa Indra also expressed his gratitude for holding the Regional Downstream Study Coordination Meeting in Bali Province which is expected to be able to provide input, suggestions and proposals that need to be made by the government so that in the end we can encourage the marine and fisheries sector to be accelerated to its maximum potential. "Downstreaming policies in the fisheries and marine sector must be able to create a conducive investment climate. In this regard, we hope that this event can produce a strategic investment downstream policy formulation, especially in the fisheries and marine sector, which can be used by the government in developing the fisheries and marine sector, " he added. 

 

Meanwhile, Special Staff for Institutional Communication Relations at the Ministry of Investment, Arnanto Nurprabowo, said that this Coordination Meeting was a series of several coordination meetings held by the Ministry of Investment in order to prepare the 2024 Downstream Study. Downstream policies in the fisheries and marine sector will have a positive impact through increasing product prices, developing the processing industry, absorbing the workforce and adopting technology as well as supporting food security.

"The downstream program launched by the Government is expected to be a product that has added value and increases employment opportunities. We have prepared a strategic downstream road map containing 28 commodities in various sectors," he explained, adding that today's Coordination Meeting activities are expected to provide input, insight and field experience. to enrich the preparation of the 2024 downstream study.
