The Governor of Bali officially opened the XXV National Library Meeting & National Scientific Seminar of the Indonesian Librarian Association (IPI) at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel, Ungasan, Badung, Sunday (July 7, 2024)
In his speech, Regional Secretary Dewa Made Indra said that libraries which are overseen by librarians, have in fact always existed and been needed since time immemorial until the end of time. However, its existence cannot be separated from the obstacles that occur. The biggest challenge today is the changing times from conventional to digitalization. "Our current problem is how do we keep up with these changes, because change is something that will definitely exist and happen. So libraries definitely don't want to be left behind by changing times. Therefore, libraries must continue to move, in our hands all libraries must move "from the old position to the current position. Today, the change is called library digitalization, if we are not ready to go there then we will also be left behind," he said.
Furthermore, according to Dewa Made Indra, if the condition of the library has become an unattractive place and is abandoned, it is a worrying alarm for the life of the nation and state. Because it can eliminate one important aspect of human life, namely literacy. However, he believes that IPI is able to bring libraries to move forward with the changing times. So that it can continue to be enjoyed and sought after by the public, because it must be sought after. "It is natural and fitting that we place libraries at the highest level compared to other aspects, because libraries are a source of our knowledge and intelligence. And literacy is also a method of achieving intelligence that comes from the library," he concluded. Meanwhile, Plt. The Head of the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia in his speech read by Deputy II for Library Resource Development, Adin Bondan, stated the same thing. Where libraries face increasingly complex and dynamic challenges day by day. The development of information and communication technology, as well as artificial intelligence, is bringing destructive changes. "This requires librarians to continue to improve themselves, so that they can remain a profession that is the main driver of information and knowledge. And in this case the National Library is developing a library transformation based on social inclusion, this must be carried out by librarians wherever they carry out their profession," he said.
This transformation is a methodical system where the library becomes a creative space, a contextual learning space, an open space for sharing all information and experiences with the community, and the library becomes an open space for improving life skills. To date, he claims there have been 3,696 loci of inclusion-based library transformation, which have had an impact on around three million marginalized residents. Where the library is present to advocate, provide training so that they are competent in their lives. (Rls/Btnc)
