DENPASAR, Balitopnews.com – The Acting Governor of Bali, S.M. Mahendra Jaya, welcomed and felt proud of Bali's choice as host for the Multilateral Naval Exercise Komodo (MNEK) 2025, which took place on February 15 - 22, 2025.
This year's MNEK is entering its fifth implementation with 38 countries as participants. "As explained by the Chief of Naval Staff (Kasal) Admiral TNI Dr. Muhammad Ali, as many as 36 warships will be involved in humanitarian and disaster management exercises. This shows that strength lies in good and competent cooperation to provide mutual support," he said while attending the opening of the 5th Multilateral Naval Exercise Komodo 2025 at Benoa Harbor, Bali, Sunday ( February 16, 2025)
The 5th Multilateral Naval Exercise Komodo (MNEK) 2025 carries the theme "Maritime Partnership for Peace and Stability", with the main focus on natural disaster management and humanitarian assistance (Humanitarian Assistance/Disaster Relief – HA/DR), as well as common threats in the maritime sector that are non-war-fighting in nature.
This theme is an actualization of the main tasks of the Indonesian Navy in Military Operations Other Than War (OMSP). A total of 38 countries will participate involving 19 warships, 7 helicopters and 3 maritime patrol aircraft (MPA) from foreign defense equipment. Meanwhile, the Indonesian Navy will deploy 17 KRIs to unite in training, discussing and collaborating in the field of disaster management in various parts of the world.
The Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, said that this activity was the fifth joint maritime exercise. The presence of leaders, the Chief of Naval Staff, and Defense Ambassadors from 37 friendly countries who sent warships is expected to build trust and synergy between nations. “In this way, we can bring peace and stability to the region amidst the current global geopolitical situation and dynamics. I also hope that this activity will become an anchor of friendship to create a more stable and safe maritime area. "For this reason, a strong sea fleet is needed, supported by maritime infrastructure (sea ports) which must also be strong," he said.
Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Navy (KASAL) Admiral TNI Dr. Muhammad Ali added that dozens of participating countries will also take part in the 6th International Maritime Security Symposium (IMSS) on February 17, 2025. This largest maritime symposium organized by the Indonesian Navy will be a discussion forum for delegates to discuss regional and global maritime issues from various perspectives.
After the opening ceremony, The Acting Governor of Bali along with ambassadors and representatives of participating countries also sailed the Lombok Strait on the KRI dr. Radjiman Wedyodiningrat (992). As part of the 5th MNEK 2025 series, the Indonesian Navy also held various activities, such as the Engineering Civic Action Program (ENCAP), which is a humanitarian program with the construction of public facilities such as roads and places of worship in Antiga Kelod Village, Karangasem Regency, Bali; Medical Civic Action Program (MEDCAP), which includes complete health examinations, dental examinations, mass circumcisions, blood donations, as well as minor medical operations at KRI dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo-991 (KRI WSH-991) which will dock at Tanah Ampo Pier, Karangasem Regency, on February 17; Environmental conservation and coastal abrasion prevention programs, in the form of planting mangrove trees in the I Gusti Ngurah Rai Forest Park Area, releasing turtle hatchlings into the sea at Peninsula Beach, Nusa Dua, Bali, as well as beach clean-up actions at Mertasari Beach, Sanur and the City Parade, which will be enlivened by the Gita Jala Flute Drums of the Naval Academy Cadets (AAL) on February 18, witnessed by the people of Bali and delegates from dozens of countries participating in the 5th MNEK 2025. This City Parade will take place route Makorem 163/WS - Puputan Margarana Renon Field via Jl. Cok Agung Tresna.
The implementation of the 5th MNEK 2025 is a form of implementation of Law Number 34 of 2004 Article 9 concerning the main duties of the Indonesian Navy, one of which is carrying out naval diplomacy to support Indonesia's foreign policy. This activity is also in line with the government's direction in strengthening national diplomacy for regional security stability and supporting the realization of the President of the Republic of Indonesia's Asta Cita Program, especially in encouraging national independence through the creative economy.
As host, Bali—which is a leading tourist destination—is expected to gain economic benefits from holding MNEK 2025, especially in the tourism sector. (Rls/Btnc
