BADUNG, Balitopnews.com - The waste problem is not only the responsibility of the government, but also all elements of society. The active role of the community in sorting household waste is very necessary. The government has also issued various policies to reduce waste generation.
This was conveyed by Plt. Head of the Bali Province Forestry and Environment Service, Made Rentin, on the sidelines of the Beach Clean Action activities, a series of commemorations of National Waste Awareness Day (HPSN) 2025 at Kedonganan Beach, Badung, on Sunday morning ( February 23, 2025).
"This is a form of collaboration and collective awareness that waste management is not solely the responsibility of the government, but the responsibility of all parties," he stressed.
Seeing the large amount of plastic waste being found, Rentin emphasized the need for progressive steps to limit the distribution of drinks or food in plastic packaging, which pose a serious threat to the environment, especially the sea.
Rentin said that the Bali Provincial Government has implemented policies regarding limiting the generation of single-use plastic waste through Bali Governor Regulation Number 97 of 2018. Apart from that, there is also Bali Governor Regulation Number 47 of 2019 concerning Source-Based Waste Management.
"I hope that collective movements (collaboration) like this can be consistently carried out not only during HPSN but on an ongoing basis. The rules already exist, now all that remains is to implement them in the field. Of course, it goes back to the role of the community, they must be willing to participate in this waste problem," he explained.
For this reason, Rentin, appealed to the public to care about environmental cleanliness, starting from households by sorting waste based on type. "I appeal to the public, let's together care for the cleanliness of the environment starting from our own households by sorting waste. Especially for the business world, to prepare themselves to manage waste independently," he added.
Meanwhile, Expert Staff for Biodiversity and Socio-Cultural Resources Conservation at the Ministry of the Environment, Noer Adi Wardojo, in his speech said that National Waste Awareness Day (HPSN) is based on the irony of waste management which empirically causes various disasters, environmental damage and pollution, serious disruption to public health and safety, as well as protracted social conflicts. "The Ministry of the Environment invites all parties to focus together and make HPSN move, work in real terms and become a productive society through joint action with collaboration. We build better waste processing through various efforts," he explained.
Also present at this action were, among others, the Commander of Kodam IX/Udayana, Major General TNI Muhammad Zamroni, the Governor's Expert Staff for Human Development and Culture I Made Sudarsana, the Head of the Bali Province Communication, Information and Statistics Service, Gede Pramana, and the Head of the Bali Province Transportation Service, IGW Samsi Gunarta.
